About IV Journal 4
The basics — what IV Journal is, what it publishes, and how it fits into the wider IVTEAM network.
What is IV Journal?
IV Journal (ISSN: 2042-4051) is a Diamond Open Access, peer-reviewed publication dedicated entirely to vascular access and infusion therapy. Every article is freely available to read, with no paywalls and no author publication charges.
It sits inside the wider IVTEAM ecosystem alongside IVTEAM, IV Conference and IV Podcast — a joined-up learning pathway for the specialty. Read more on the About IV Journal page.
What does "Diamond Open Access" mean?
Diamond Open Access means there is no charge on either side of publishing: readers pay nothing to access articles, and authors pay nothing to publish (no article processing charges). Instead, the journal is funded by advertising, sponsorship, and support from the wider IVTEAM network, as explained in our advertising policy.
What kinds of articles does IV Journal publish?
We publish original research, qualitative and quantitative studies, case reports, systematic reviews, clinical opinion pieces, and product evaluations — all focused on the clinical specialty of vascular access and infusion therapy. See Contribute to IV Journal for details.
Who oversees editorial standards at IV Journal?
Editorial standards are overseen by a board of clinicians and contributors with expertise across nursing, vascular access, infection prevention, and device technology. The Editor-in-Chief holds full and final authority over editorial decisions, including approving advertising and sponsored content, as set out in our advertising policy.
Submitting & Writing 6
How to contribute a manuscript, what we're looking for, and how to prepare it for submission.
How do I submit a manuscript or article idea?
Send us your manuscript, a case report idea, or a question about the process, and our editorial team will guide you from first draft to publication. Experienced authors who have prepared their manuscript in line with our writing guidance can begin the submission process straight away; authors who need assistance should start by contacting the IVJOURNAL team.
Do I need to be an experienced author to contribute?
No. IV Journal supports both experienced and new authors. Experienced authors follow a familiar submission, review, and revision pathway handled to established medical publishing standards. New authors get clear instructions, responsive editorial communication, and step-by-step guidance through article preparation, peer review, and final acceptance.
Why should I publish in IV Journal?
Publishing strengthens your CV, enhances your professional profile, and can contribute to CPD and revalidation requirements. It also lets you share best practice and support the wider knowledge base of the vascular access and infusion therapy specialty.
Is there a fee to publish in IV Journal?
No. As a Diamond Open Access journal, IV Journal charges no article processing charges and no subscription or reader fees. Publishing is entirely free for authors.
What referencing style should I use?
IV Journal uses the Harvard (author–date) referencing style. Every source cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and every reference list entry must be cited in the text. Cite the author's surname and year in brackets, e.g. (Smith, 2023), and include a page number for direct quotations. Full formatting examples are on the Writing for IV Journal page.
Can I use AI tools to help write my manuscript?
AI tools may support the writing process, but their use is strictly limited to proofreading and checking — they must never be used to author, generate, or invent content. The intellectual content of your manuscript must be entirely your own, and authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy and originality of everything they submit.
Every manuscript is also screened for similarity as part of the editorial process. Plagiarism — presenting someone else's words, ideas or data as your own — is taken extremely seriously and will result in rejection.
Editorial Board 3
Getting involved in shaping IV Journal's editorial policy and peer review.
How can I join the IV Journal editorial board?

Is corporate editorial board membership available?
Yes, corporate membership of the editorial board is available, but places are limited, so it's worth enquiring early to secure a spot via the Contribute page.
IV Podcast & IV Conference 2
How IV Journal connects to the wider IVTEAM events and audio content.
Can I be a guest on IV Podcast?
Yes. IV Podcast brings clinicians, researchers, and industry specialists together for conversations on best practice in vascular access and infusion therapy. If you have expertise, a project, or a story worth sharing, tell us about your area of expertise and the topic you'd like to discuss on air via the Contribute page. We'll arrange a convenient time and send you everything you need to prepare; once published, your episode is shared across IVTEAM's channels and your own network.
How do I get involved with IV Conference?
IV Conference brings together local and national events focused on IV therapy and vascular access, giving clinicians, researchers, and industry partners a focused space to engage with current evidence and emerging practice. Get in touch with the IVTEAM to discuss speaking slots, abstract ideas, sponsorship, or exhibition space.
Advertising & Sponsorship 6
Placements, rates, and sponsorship options for reaching IV Journal's readership.
What advertising options does IV Journal offer?
There are four ways to work with us:
- Main page display advertising — high-visibility exposure to every visitor browsing the latest research.
- In-article advertising — your brand positioned alongside relevant peer-reviewed content.
- Sponsored content — share your expertise, product evaluations, or educational material as clearly identified sponsored content.
- Sponsorship — a longer-term association with the journal itself, scoped and agreed individually with our advertising team.
See full details on the Advertise in IV Journal page.
How much does advertising cost?
All placements are sold on a flat monthly basis, with no impression minimums or CPM to interpret. Launch rates (held for the duration of your first booking) include, for example, a main page leaderboard from £195/month, a main page medium rectangle from £135/month, and a sponsored article from £250. Longer bookings of 3 or 12 months are discounted by 10% and 20% respectively. All prices are in GBP, exclusive of VAT — see the full rate card on the advertising page.
How is IV Journal advertising different from the IVTEAM package?
IV Journal advertising is open and non-exclusive, so you can book a single placement without committing to a category lockout. Category exclusivity and newsletter placement sit within the wider IVTEAM package, which covers the whole IVTEAM network. Existing IVTEAM advertisers receive first refusal on IV Journal placements in their category, plus a 10% loyalty discount.
Can I sponsor the journal instead of buying an advertisement?
Yes. Sponsorship is a longer-term association with IV Journal rather than a single placement, and every sponsorship is scoped and priced individually with our advertising team. Options include sponsoring a themed article collection, providing unrestricted support towards publishing costs, funding a named award or bursary, sponsoring a webinar, combining sponsorship across IV Journal and IV Conference, or funding plain-language summaries and translations of articles.
Does advertising or sponsorship influence editorial content?
No. Advertising and sponsorship never influence peer review or editorial decisions, and advertisers have no sight of or input into editorial content. Display advertising is visually separated from articles, all commercial content carries a clear "Advertisement Feature" label, and sponsored articles are priced at the equivalent display rate rather than at a premium — so there is never a commercial incentive to favour paid content. In line with ICMJE recommendations, sponsors have no role in choosing topics, authors, or peer reviewers.
How do I get a quote for advertising or sponsorship?
Tell us about your brand, audience, and budget via the Advertise in IV Journal page, and we'll send you current placements, availability, and rates. Bespoke packages and sponsorships across IV Journal, IV Podcast, and IV Conference are also available, and compliance teams are welcome to read our advertising policy first.
Advertising Policy & Compliance 5
How we keep commercial content separate from the science, in line with ICMJE recommendations.
Who approves advertising and sponsored content?
The Editor-in-Chief of IV Journal holds full and final authority for approving all advertising and sponsored content, and for enforcing our advertising policy — including the power to reject an advertisement, remove a live one, or end an agreement. Advertising is sold by the IVTEAM commercial team, which cannot approve an advertisement or overrule an editorial decision, and has no role in peer review or publication decisions. Where the Editor-in-Chief has any interest in an advertiser, the decision is referred to another editorial board member.
Are advertisements targeted based on what I'm reading?
No. Advertisements on IV Journal are displayed at random — banner positions rotate across the journal, and the ad you see is not selected based on the article you're reading, its subject, its authors, or anything about you as a reader. The one exception runs the other way: where an article evaluates, compares, or reports on a specific product, advertising for that product category is automatically excluded from that article.
Is sponsored content peer reviewed or part of the scholarly record?
No. Sponsored content is advertising, not research, and is treated as such throughout. It is not peer reviewed, is not assigned a DOI, is not registered with Crossref, is not included in the metadata supplied to DOAJ or any other indexing service, is not assigned to a volume or issue, and is not counted in the journal's article totals or citation metrics. It is always attributed to the sponsoring organisation rather than to an IV Journal author.
What advertising will IV Journal not accept?
We consider advertising from organisations whose products, services, education, or research are relevant to clinicians and researchers in vascular access and infusion therapy — for example medical device manufacturers and distributors, education and training providers, professional bodies, conference organisers, publishers, and healthcare recruiters. We will decline, and reserve the right to withdraw at any time, advertising that falls outside our acceptable categories (this list is not exhaustive), and we may decline any advertisement without giving a reason. Advertising must comply with the UK CAP Code and, for pharmaceutical advertisers, the ABPI Code of Practice — see the full advertising policy for details.
How do I report an advertisement that breaches the policy?
Email team@ivteam.com with the advertisement, the page you saw it on, and the date. We acknowledge complaints within five working days; the Editor-in-Chief reviews each one, may suspend the advertisement while it's investigated, and will tell you the outcome. Readers may also complain directly to the Advertising Standards Authority, or to the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority for pharmaceutical material.
